Choosing the Right Location to Build Your New Custom Home

Location, location, location - It's been said repeatedly that location is everything - and it's true. Choosing to build a new custom home affords homeowners perks that those who don't build don't have. Not only do you get to choose the design and style of home you build but you get to design the home based on the location you choose. And, you get to choose the location of your new home. When choosing a location there are many things to consider -- the price of the lot, property taxes, school district, how conveniently located the plot is to shopping, dining and recreation, and the list goes on. Deciding on a location is a personal choice and what is right for one family is not going to be right for another.

It's best to choose your location based on the way you and your family live. If you work from home, commute won't be much of a consideration, but access to good schools might. You'll also probably want to live in a community that you can relate to. If you're a professional, you'll probably want to live in an area with other professionals.

Work and school aren't the only considerations, you may want to be close to aging relatives.

There are so many issues to consider when searching for the right location for your home and those are the personal choices, the decisions only you can make. After you've chosen the location you'll need to choose the floor plan. And that can get a little challenging because you will need to choose the floor plan based on the location you just picked. Don't forget about permitting, easements, and of course you'll want to position the home so you have the best views possible.
