Here are many of the great events taking place this May in and around Charleston

When: Sunday, May 1st, 2016 | 2pm

Where: MUSC Health Stadium, Daniel Island

The Charleston Bed Race was established in 2010 as a local fundraiser benefiting children battling cancer. The original goals of the Race were to create a new way for the Charleston community to get involved with Camp Happy Days and to help children in South Carolina kick cancer one dollar at a time. Today, the Race is a well-loved event for all ages that still serves its main purpose of raising funds for Camp Happy Days, but also provides an opportunity to increase awareness of and interest in Camp Happy Days and our supporters. When participants, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators come to MUSC Health Stadium this year, they will join in the fun and excitement of this innovative Charleston race while helping to bring thousands of dollars in donations and attention and awareness to Camp Happy Days and the priceless support it gives to children battling cancer.

As always, we promise to bring in regionally and nationally acclaimed bluegrass artists for a two-day gathering in a family friendly environment, including plenty of activities for our little bluegrass fans. Food and other vendors will be available to fill the belly and quench the thirst, so coolers will not be allowed on the festival grounds.

Where: Charleston maritime Center

The race starts at 12pm on Saturday, May 28th just off the Charleston Maritime Center. The best vantage point from land is the park next to the Maritime Center at the corner of Inspection and Wharfside Streets. Come down to the Maritime Center and bid farewell to the teams as they head north for the 642-nautical mile run to Brooklyn!

Sumter's Iris Festival is South Carolina's oldest continuous festival and is consistently ranked among the top festivals in the Southeast.
